Congrats you started your fitness journey! One of the most important aspects of your fitness journey is tracking success.
A simple and easy way to track your fitness journey is by tracking your Body Mass Index (BMI). BMI is a measurement of body fat based on your height and weight. Doctors use BMI to track whether patients are healthy, unhealthy, overweight and underweight. BMI tracking is a great way simple and easy way to start tracking your success too!
You can use the below formula (this link) to find our your BMI:
BMI = (Your weight (in pounds) x 703) / (Your height in inches squared)
See where you track using the below BMI Chart:
Now that you know your BMI you will want to save that number. When tracking your journey you can refer back to your BMI to see how you compare.
One thing to remember is that BMI uses your weight in the formula, but doesn’t take into account whether that weight comes from fat or lean muscle. Therefore, as you start to gain lean muscle mass you may seem rather heavy in BMI for your frame or size but that is simply because muscle weighs more than fat. This is where Body fat percentage can be beneficial to measure as well.
